RARE Vintage Caribou hair tufting of a flower. This beautiful tufted picture is nicely matted & framed. It is signed on the back along with information about this native art form. This was made in Churchill, Manitoba in 1982 by Julie Volios. The flower is done in stunning colors of red, pink, yellow & white. This art form uses natural & died caribou hair to depict a variety of scenes. Tufting uses caribou hair to produce three dimensional images by stitching & trimming bundles of selected caribou hair onto tanned hides or velvet reinforced by canvas. This requires precision & skill & is very labor intensive. It is becoming very difficult to find. Measures: 9.25 long x 7.25 wide x 1.5 deep in very good vintage condition. The information card on the back has a small tear which has been neatly repaired. There is no fogginess under the glass.This stunning Canadian native artwork is a must to add to your collection!
