Large turned wooden dried flower vase handcrafted from Tasmanian Blackwood with Yakisugi finish Tasmanian Blackwood (acacia melanoxylon) timber grown in north-west Tasmania's temperate rainforests delivers rich texture & tones. Boasting a variety of colors ranging from light golden-brown to deep brown (sometimes with a reddish tint) & occasionally showing black streaks, the timber radiates a subtle beauty that makes it irresistible to artists, wood turners, & fine furniture makers. Additional character is added by the grain of the wood, which can be straight or wavy with a natural luster. Yakisugi is a Japanese technique of wood preservation which involves scorching the wood with a high temperature flame to cause instant charring. An abrasive is then used to remove the thin layer of loose charcoal & the process is repeated several times until the desired effect is achieved. The wood is then sealed with food safe Danish Oil to a satin glow. The deep black coloring & accentuated grain patterning caused by the Yakisugi, combined with the amazing natural woodgrain detail gives this piece a very unique distinctive look. Sanded to a fine finish & polished with Danish oil to a satin glow. Vase is approximately 25cm high & 10cm wide at its widest point. It has a 12cm by 4 cm recess for flowers. Please note that these vases cannot hold water & are suitable for dried flowers or as ornamental pieces only. The vases are not dishwasher safe & should instead be wiped clean with a damp cloth. We recommend regular oiling (with a food grade mineral oil) to ensure your vase stays in great shape!
