Description
Wheel thrown porcelain, hand carved & wood fired. The kiln that it was fired in held 60 cubic feet of ceramic work & took all day to load & 3 days/2 nights to fire. The kiln was preheated on gas for 12 hours & then switched over to a wood fire for ~30 hours during which time wood is added in 10 minute intervals to maintain & increase the heat to ~2300 degrees Fahrenheit. After the kiln is closed down it is left to slowly cool over the course of a week & then each piece is carefully unloaded, appreciated & the bottoms are sanded down until smooth. The interior of each piece is glazed while the exterior is left unglazed leaving this atmospheric firing to create unique & natural glaze effects on the surface.
