Description
This is an absolutely amazing piece from my friend's collection inherited from his mother. She would be over 120 years old if still alive. There is natural crazing, but no damage!! The colors are vivid & remarkable. All hand painted. The bowl isn't marked With the double T in diamond shape, but the matching candlesticks are marked made in Japan with the double T. I've included a mark from one of them in the last photo. This mark is one of the standard mark of the Japaense company called The Takito Company (1880-1948). Known for lustreware (lusterware) decoration taken originally from the technical developments done at Noritake. They also made moriage wares in the Satsuma style & many other types of tablewares. The diamond/rectangle pottery mark with the T-T mark is found on much of their lustreware production & so likely dates from the 1920' & 30's when this decoration style was fashionable. Better yet look in my shop for the two matching candlestick holders. You can glimpse them in second to last picture. This is so rare I couldn't find another like it. Measures 16 across 10 wide 8 high. This would make a great centerpiece, I would never hide it in a cupboard. How do you begin to put a value on something like this?
