This is a beautiful quality Edwardian mahogany bureau dating from the beginning of the 20th century. It is in good antique condition with only minor signs of wear. The slope has a book matched flame mahogany veneer & this is enhanced by an internal moulding that acts as a frame to show the veneer off to its' full advantage, the whole top is surrounded by a rope like carved moulding & there is a tiny chip to one corner that I have photographed. The interior is served with several cubby holes & 2 useful drawers. The opening of the slope automatically activates the pulls that the top rests on. The leatherette sciver is original & does show signs, (although liveable with) of its' age but this should be expected. All handles date to the beginning of the 20th century & are original & made from brass. They are known as tear drop handles. There is an original key which fits the locks but told keys are notorious for suddenly not cooperating, so I would recommend that it is used solely to open the bureau slope, as a knob. The drawers sit on cabriole legs which are the widest part of the bureau, & these have ball & claw feet. They are pine lined. The height of the bureau is 103 cm, 80 cm wide, 44 cm deep when closed. When open the bureau has a depth of 75.5 cm & the slope is 75.5 cm from the floor. The drawer depth measure 10 cm at the top, middle drawer is 12 cm & bottom drawer is 14 cm deep.
