Wheel thrown & hand painted ceramic fruit bowl. Finished with glaze in orange, green, grey colors. With the authors stamp. This bowl is an unique piece of art. It is wheel thrown on a pottery wheel, then dried, bisque fired, glazed & fired for a second time. It is entirely handmade - from the preparation of the clay till the removing from the kiln. The Process: (Explore our shop for other stages of pottery making) WEDGING Wedging is the process of mixing the clay by hand by rotating & pressing a clay ball on a table. The purpose is to thoroughly homogenize the clay & to remove all air bubbles. This is particularly important, as the presence of air bubbles in the clay will result in explosions in the kiln as the air pockets expand & burst. The pot is ruined, as is any other pot near it in the kiln. One knows if there is air in their clay if they see holes, like in Swiss cheese, when they slice through the clay with a wire.
