Victorian Era Christmas Ornament - Ruffled Wire over Golden Ball with Tiny Silver Mercury Ball Dangle - Intricate Design This very sweet Victorian Era Christmas ornament has seen many Christmastimes come & go. That woven wire ruffle that encircles the gold ball makes this a very unique ornament. The ornament measures 4-1/2 long (does not include the hanging string) x 3-1/2 wide & with a design that has one taking a closer look. The golden ball is encased in a wire mesh which was normal for this era but this ornament has an added embellishment a woven wire 'ruffle'. The wire ruffle goes all the way around the center of the ornament & is very secure with no movement. On the very bottom of the ornament is the finishing touch of a single silver ball that dangles. The silver ball adds the perfect amount of sparkle & measures (from the bottom of gold ornament to bottom of silver ornament) 1-1/2 long x 3/4 wide. The wire ruffle reminds me of a lacy hem found on the bottom of a ladies underskirt. The ornament remains in beautiful antique condition without any kind of heavy age speckling which sometimes comes with Victorian Era ornaments. At some point in it's history a thin black cording was added to aid in hanging. This is a wonderfully unique Christmas ornament & perfect for those that admire & collect vintage ornaments.
