An impressive Edwardian oak desk with good proportions & pleasant colour. It features an unusual sunken hinged writing slope that when opened reveals a fitted mahogany interior of two small drawers & seven pigeon holes. The slope makes for a very comfortable workplace; at the same time, the space underneath creates a practical & convenient storage solution. Either side is a turned gallery that is in good order with no loose parts. The eight drawers are clean inside (apart from one with a 3cm ink stain), with reeded decoration on the fronts & original brass handles. The desk has three brand new burgundy inset leathers, tooled in gold & professionally fitted. It fits together in three sections; each pedestal is raised on a moulded plinth base that incorporates castors. There is evidence of scuffing around the base commensurate with age but no damage & nothing missing. This is an extraordinary piece, & although having a few blemishes which are testament to its maturity, it is clean & tidy enough to go straight into a study or office.
