A an 11x14 work to help us imagine a more beautiful UVA: One saturated in justice & kindness, void of pretension & hurry, where we are free to forsake the ideal of omni-competence, yet still pursue excellence. Where rest is admired alongside diligence, where need is normal, & limits are an intuitive necessity, not burden. Where life on Grounds is not a stage for the loudest voices or a gladiator pit for vindication, & we don't utilize each others as mirrors for our egos & sculpted bodies, but trust we are seen when hidden. Where we deconstruct only to build back something tangible, lasting, & abundant. Where the highest value is not the actualization of our ideal self, but that of these entire Grounds, from bottom to top. It is here. People yell a lot of thoughtless things about who God is & what the Bible says, but one thing is clear when he chose to show himself in Jesus: He wants to bring back the beauty, peace, rest, order, justice, feasting, & lighthearted laughing of the world He created, & for us to play a part. This is what we're talking about this semester...This Kingdom of His, that is upside down from the normal & requires a radical shift in perspective in order to live in it. We may fail in the process but, best of all, it doesn't require perfectionjust a growing desire for humility & a willingness to start small. Uva Upside-Down Kingdom Print
