Originally labeled rue Saint Adrien, in honeor of Adrien de Pauger's own patron saint, it was changed to rue de l'Arsenal, then rue Saint Ursule before settling on rue des Ursulines in honor of the order of nuns whose chapel is on this street. The Sisters of Ursula were one of the first order to send religious women to New Orleans. They founded schools, orphanages, asylums, & ministered to the poor as well as being one of the first pharmacists in the United States.
