Activity Cushion/ Pillow - Ideal For People With Dementia/ Alzheimers - ready to ship! Make do & Mend This handmade dementia cushion has been designed to help soothe & relax people with dementia. It provides lots of different textures & age appropriate attachments to explore, providing stimulation helping to keep hands & minds busy. It is the perfect portable size to use on the persons lap. It measures 37cm X 37cm approx. You can also choose the option of having the same design in a lap blanket/mat which is larger (45cm x 45cm which will be made to order, taking a bit longer to arrive) & maybe more suitable to some peoples needs. (The blanket includes the option of personalising with a name, already included in the price, let me know if you would like me to add a name to the design for you.) The blanket can be rolled up to be stored away or easily carried. WHY use a sensory cushion? ... It has been shown that providing appropriate activities & stimulation for people with dementia helps to reduce agitation & anxiety & gives the person a sense of purpose. Repetitive movements, such as moving the zip up & down or moving the beads, provide satisfaction & contentment. What you will get!.. The cushion is constructed from a lovely mix of fabrics & trimmings with a bright & colourful theme. It has dress makers fabric & fabric swatches attached, which may appeal to a generation who worked in that industry or who made their own clothes at home, in the spirit of make do & mend! Each cushion will have slightly different fabric swatches & is unique. Many older people will be familiar with & be comforted by idea of make do & mend. The embellishments are bright, attractive & fun! The cushion includes A variety of printed & textured fabrics - Colourful ribbons & buttons - a zip - beads on a string. - fabric swatches - fringing/ tassels. Please note that there maybe slight variation in fabrics & textures used depending on availability at the time, & the fabric on the back will generally be a contrasting fabric & not the same as the one used on the front of the design Lots of other designs are available.
