This mug is medium sized, with a nice round bowl perfect to, perfect to cup your hands around. The dragon design has been made by painting a resist onto the clay to stop the glaze sticking to it after it has been through its first firing. When the mug is fired the glaze sticks all over except where the design is painted. The mug was made by being thrown on a potters wheel with a type of clay called stoneware, which as the name suggests it very durable. The handle is attached later, & it goes for its first firing to 1000 degrees centigrade. When is has has that first - bisque- firing it can be glazed. This is when I do the design , & then refired to a hotter temperature of 1250C. At this stage it becomes fully ceramic. I glazed it inside with a simple white glaze, & a blue for the outside. I love the rustic & organic feel to this clay which I think is very well suited to mugs. It is quite a coarse clay with a natural grey/brown colour. Like all handmade stuff this is intended as an object to take with you through life. Barring accidents it should last a lifetime, never going out of fashion, & bringing comfort from my hands to yours. Dragon Mug.
