This spalted chestnut stool has been crafted by hand, using hand tools & traditional techniques. Each stool is unique, its final state determined by the natural colours & curves of the wood. The chestnut is sourced locally from right outside my workshop door here in France, & the forests that neighbour our house. You will see the marks of this handmade item, which are left pronounced intentionally, adding more texture to something I believe is not just functional but beautiful as well. The way light will ripple across a leg, rather than cut a perfectly straight line, intrigues & entices. This log was once destined to be burnt on the fire but now has been turned into something that will last many lifetimes. The dark lines of a spalted wood occur from duelling fungi (no longer present in the wood) marking territories. It adds so much character & truly makes this a one of a kind, never to be repeated item. It has a bee's wax coating for a durable, satin finish. Its concave seat adds a little extra comfort but is not too pronounced if the stool were to be used as a stand.
