Beautiful & well made reproduction cameo glass bud vase in the style of Emile Galle. First off let me tell you how I could easily tell this is a reproduction piece, I have just learned this info myself & would love to share it with new collectors of Galle art glass. 1 - the top rim of the vase is ground down. An original would have a rounded lip. 2 - & most obvious it is signed Galle but also signed TIP. TIP is meant to show that it is in the style of or a reproduction. They are not trying to fool anyone but, many people on the internet are. They are uneducated or trying to scam by selling reproductions at very high prices. Be wary when shopping around & I hope that these tips help you. There's nothing wrong with buying a reproduction piece of art to enjoy but there's something very wrong with people trying to pass off fakes as the real deal. 3 - look at the signature. This one has an authentic looking signature to an amateur such as myself. When Emile Galle died his wife continued producing his works but these were marked with a star next to his signature. So while not a piece by his hand a star could be an indication of an authentic piece. 4 - Alone in my hand having never seen a real Galle it looked like a fabulous piece of art. & it is, it's just incomparable to his real art glass. A nice repro but not the same quality. There are lesser quality reproduction pieces that are made in Japan & are usually pressed glass so look for a seam on the glass which would mean it was made in a mold. This vase I believe is Russian made, high quality for a reproduction, & the glass is layered from the white base glass to a yellow & topped with brown. I don't know exactly how this vase was made but it appears to have the glass layered on like painted on rather than how a real Galle would be colored layers of glass revealed by layers of the glass being carved away. Vase measures approximately 5 x 3. Vintage mid century - 1990's. Condition is used, excellent. Please see all photos carefully & ask any questions you may have.
