I love color ... well who doesn't, as well as impressionistic scenes from nature, but oh my it was a freezing fall morning & getting out of bed before sunrise was admittedly a challenge. The fall colors however were at their peak & I had an hours drive & multi hour hike to a spot where I thought the two would collide nicely. My nostrils burned with every refreshing ice cold inhale as my best girl, Cheyenne, & I headed off. She was getting up in age but still loved an adventure so I had her set the pace. Our hike started off skirting a large beaver pond then gently ascended through stands of aspen & Jeffery pines. I was so excited as numerous spots along the creek reflected the resplendent scene of willows & aspens erupting in full color along side the stream, but I wasn't at the spot I thought would be amazing. We finally arrived after 3 hours with the sun sitting at the perfect angle in the sky to reflect the fall colors upon the water. After scouting the scene I was displeased to note the absolute best location to get the image I was after required wading through a half frozen pool below a beautiful cascade. I positioning myself at the far end of the pool, kneeling in the frigid water at the edge of a 4 foot drop to the next pool - I was wet & freezing. I was able to get a few shots in before being soaked & frozen from my feet to my knees forced me to retreat. Warmed up back at the car with the heater on full I finally took a cursory look at the images & wow it was better than I had even imagined it would be. What a day.
