Description
This big 18 ounce mug has a complex exterior glaze that gives way to reveal a textural carved black clay body beneath. Interior is glossy black. Cute little raccoon holding a mug engraved into the side. 4 1/2 tall. This item's creation started millions of years ago when fine sediment collected & formed deposits of the clay now being mined & reformulated for use in pottery. With a little careful crafting, this sloppy substance takes form in my hands & on the potter's wheel. The best of those forms are brought to 1046 degrees Celsius in a kiln, where they vitrify & become ready to accept glaze. This glaze essentially becomes a glass coating on the piece when it is again fired to 1177 degrees Celsius, further toughening the body & leaving it smooth, colorful, & easy to clean.
