Ultima Thule series handmade glass dishes were designed by Tapio Wirkkala in 1968. Ultima Thule - a place beyond the borders of the known world - is a perfect name for these dishes: they look out like they were frozen/melting. According to the legend there was far away in North an unknown secret island covered with ice & snow. Wirkkala's idea was to get the surface look like melting ice. It is said that it took thousands of working hours to develop the right manufacturing methods. Tapio worked together with glass blowers in cabin's heat until he was satisfied. Iittala has produced Ultima Thule series glass dishes for over five decades since those days. Some of the series dishes are not produced anymore, but Iittala has also published some new dishes. It seems that these 20 cl tumblers are still produced by Iittala. So, in a way they are not yet vintage. in a way they are: made in the nineties (stickers!). Measurements: Height 85 mm Diameter 70 mm Volume 18 cl (20 cl as filled full) Weight 200 g, for a set of four tumblers 800 g Material: into mold by hand trickled clear glass I have eight glasses in the same excellent condition. They are for sale as groups of four tumblers. No marks of usage can be found. The old white texted horizontal stickers are remaining in excellent condition: only one of them is faded.
