A pair of upcycled antique, art nouveau vases by the 'Old Cyples Pottery', Market Street, Longton, Stoke on Trent. The Pottery was established in the mid 18th century by the Cyples Family, the first named potter was Joseph Cyples. Their involvement in the Pottery lasted some decades before bankruptcy caused their closure. These beautiful vases were painted by me many years ago as their original finish was sad & tired yet their art nouveau shape really appealed to me. Now they have a neutral buff colour finish which will suit many interiors. The paint continues down inside the necks as far as you can see, I think it best to use them as decorative items rather than to add water, maybe with dried flowers or seed heads although empty they make a great statement, possibly for either end of your mantlepiece . So lovely that the pair survived together intact for all these years. Now with their new look they really are one of a kind! I hope you like them. Standing 7 1/2 tall with a diameter of 5 1/2. Weight 890g unwrapped. Marked to the base with ''Cyples Old Pottery 1793''. The date here refers not to the date of manufacture but to the origin of the ware. During the early period when Joseph was potter the pieces were impressed with this mark making it difficult to give an exact date to the manufacture. The paint gives a slightly rustic appearance to the finish with brushstrokes visible yet a reasonably smooth surface. Shipping quoted is Signed For in the UK & Tracked internationally.
