Rattan desk or vanity table & chair set by Louis Sognot (circa 1950s). An absolute charmer & an icon of the era. There are two drawers located under the desk with stylishly curved drawer handles. Underneath, a sensuously designed storage space. Beautiful rattan canes connect the legs & horizontals forming the support structure for the table. Overall the piece is in good vintage condition with characterful blemishes & nicks commensurate with age & attesting to its use & history. A matching chair pairs beautifully with the table. About the designer: Louis Sognot (1892 - 1969) famously collaborated with the Atelier Primavera founded in 1912 by the Parisian department store, Printemps, in order to create crafted modern furniture & objects. Sognot conceived functional & elegant pieces using innovative materials, especially rattan, which gave a contemporary feel to his designs. A professor at l'Ecole Boulle, Sognot inspired many post-war designers & contributed significantly to the character of the 1950s aesthetic.
