Decorative French ceramic sugar bowl by Fernande Kohler (c. 1960s). Fired Vallauris red clay forms the structure of this delightful bowl. The earthenware is accented both on the base & the lid by hand-painted geometric shapes. It is rustic in appearance combined with Southern French charm. The piece is delightful & may be used as a decorative piece or utilitarian as desired. It is in good overall condition. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying this listing. Upon request a video may be provided. Signed on the underside: 'F. Kohler Vallauris'. Unfortunately, very little is know about this ceramicist other than they were in Vallauris. As background, in 1948 Picasso came to live in Vallauris, where he stayed until 1955. During his time in the town, he developed a fascination for the techniques of ceramics & linocuts. A freeman of the town, Picasso greatly contributed to the renaissance of the Vallauris pottery industry in the 1950s, this legendary golden age when everyone was a potter, including famous ceramicists Roger Capron.
