Description
10 1/2 tall x 8 wide x 8 wide 5 1/2 pounds This large ceramic elongated sphere was created on the potter's wheel & coated with a terra sigillata that is polished to a high shine. Saggar fired in a raku kiln, the vase displays dramatic markings from the particular materials chosen to be wrapped with in the saggar resulting in a one of a kind abstract surface. The many surface colors consist of various plums, burgundy reds, rust tones, and vory white. This beautiful piece is tall & large enough to display on the floor, fireplace hearth or low coffee table. Saggar firing, first invented in China, currently used in America & Europe, originally referred to a container made of fire clay intended to protect & shield porcelain & stoneware from vapors, flying ash, & debris in a kiln. Modern artists in contrast choose to use saggars made out of different heat resistant materials to hold clay objects nestled inside the container in a nest of combustible materials, & salts that will carbonize, flash or blush the unglazed surface of the ware resulting in one of a kind exciting surface effects of warm marbled earth tones. The texture of the pottery surface may also be altered by ash & salt deposits. Imperfections of the piece are apart of the process & contribute to their beauty. This piece is not intended for use with food. This vase will perspire if filled with water. This listing is for one vase. Ceramic Art Vase Sagger Fired
