Charming white ceramic Hen Shaped Egg 'basket' from Portmeirion with a relief moulded back stamp reading 'PORTMEIRION MADE in ENGLAND' around a number '3', alongside 'OVEN TO TABLEWARE'. The lower half is moulded to represent a woven basket with a scalloped rim, & the body of the hen sits on top to form the lid with her head slightly off to one side. The modelling is good with very detailed feathers, & there is a little chick nestling under each wing. Approx measurements: the basket is 7.25 long by 5.5 wide by just over 2 deep. The hen is 7 long by 4.5 wide & stands just over 4.25 high at the tail. Overall height when both parts are together is 6.25. in good pre-owned, used condition with a couple of tiny nicks to the inner rim & widespread crazing. There are also some manufacturing anomalies including small brown spots of debris to the interior & some indents to the scalloping on the rim of the base which are under the glaze - please see my photos. This wear has been taken into account in the pricing. Eggs used as photographic props not included.
