This splendid purple silk coat with gold trim was a garment worn for special occasions such as wedding. Hand tailored for Uzbeks living in the border regions of Uzbekistan & North Afghanistan. There is no machine work here at all. Known as silk shahi or qanawaiz silk chapan. This is fine silk lined with cotton & there is wear although it can still be worn but rather for special occaisions. I have photographed all the small tears in the silk, so please look at the photos carefully. The underside of both the arms, by the seams as well as down the front of the garment.
