The colonial capital was moved there from St. Mary's City in 1694. Annapolis played significant roles in America's creation & development & hosted important political conventions that produced vital plans for the nation's future. The capital of Maryland was the country's capital when the Treaty of Paris, ending the Revolutionary War, was signed here.
