Make sure to leave room for adjustments if need! If your dog has a neck size of 19 inches for example-I might recommend the Large, not the Medium! Buckles: See picture for details, but the Standard Black Buckle is a plastic black buckle, these weigh much less then the metal buckles. The Metal Upgrade is Nickle Plated Aluminum. in my testing these have proven strong, but do weigh more then the plastic buckle. Metal will scratch & scuff over time, in my experience the more rough & tumble your dog is when wearing a collar the quicker they will scratch, basically your mileage will vary! These do 'jingle' more then a plastic buckle due to the metal on metal contact. You can't beat how gorgeous a metal buckle looks to make your collar that much fancier! The buckles will sit slightly wider then the listed width. ^^What width should I buy?^^ Here are some common kinds of dogs that may look good in different widths of collars! 3/8th inch: Teeny dogs with teeny necks (Chi's & dogs about that size) Cats have a seperate listing for breakaway collars. 3/4 inch: Small breed dogs & other dogs who weigh under 20/25 pounds or so. 1 inch: Almost any dog can look good in this size of collar! Smaller dogs may want to size down to the 3/4 inch, & larger dogs may want to go up to the 1.5 or 2 inch. 1.5 inch: For the medium & larger breeds who want a slightly thicker collar than normal to show off more of the pattern! These larger sized width collars may be too heavy for smaller breeds due to the size of the hardware 2 inch: Good for large breed dogs (Danes, bully breeds & other larger dogs who like a thick collar) You can cut a strip of paper in the width desired to help visualize how it will look!
