Famous for their bold use of colours & interesting & striking glazing techniques these ceramic West German vases / pots are perfect for adding a mid-century modern feel to your home. By the early 1960s the West German factories started to experiment heavily with the decorative effects of glazes. This experimentation was mainly with the use of mostly drip glazes, with one glaze running over another, usually in a contrasting colour or a different thickness, resulting in a lava-like effect. However it was the 1970s that saw a true expression in experimentation & innovation with pots of all types, from floor vases to miniature bowls, made in bizarre shapes & covered in all kinds of dazzling colours & patterns. This particular pot was designed by Dieter Peter for Carstens Tnnieshof. Named the 'Beehive' for obvious reasons, this beautiful & sculptural vas is sure to make any collection instantly better. Produced by the Carstens Tnnieshof company which was founded in 1946 by Ernst Carstens & his son Christian. The family was no stranger to manufacturing items of this nature & had a long history in the ceramics & porcelain industry in Germany. Production of this type of decorative table ceramics began in 1947, with the first known decorative pieces dating from the early 1950s. in general good condition with light wear commensurate with age. Measures approximately 29.5cm tall, 19.5cm wide & 18cm deep.
