Amethyst was prized for its beauty & legendary energies for thousands of years. in Ancient Egypt it was made into beads & amulets. The Ancient Greeks & Romans valued this stone highly & associated it with royalty. They used it in crowns & rings. The name Amethyst derives from the Greek word meaning ‘not drunken’ - the Greeks would use this crystal to make chalices & cups to drink wine with - it was said it would help keep them sober. These earrings are handmade with 925 Sterling Silver in our own workshop. 925 Sterling Silver is an alloy of silver containing 92.5% pure silver & 7.5% other metals, usually copper. Fine silver (99.9% pure) is generally too soft for producing large functional objects, & in Sterling Silver, the silver is alloyed to give strength whilst preserving the malleability of the silver & a high precious metal content - ideal for making silver jewellery. Sterling silver jewellery is always stamped with a marking to indicate the percentage of silver it contains. The product will be sent in an organza bag along with a business card.
