Description
Oranges for so long prized as an exotic rarity are now synonymous with the largesse and indulgence of Christmas. Thought to symbolise the gold St Nicholas put into the stockings of three dowryless daughters (whence deriving the tradition of finding the fruit in modernday Christmas stockings) the fruit is thought to have arrived in England having been revived in Europe by the Moors in Spain. An exorbitant luxury, the fruit became prized and a fashion for glasshouses to grow the fruit in the chill of the English climate became a 17th century status symbol. Recalling traditional succades, 120g of dark chocolatedipped and candied orange slices. Handsomely presented in a balsawood scroll with ribbon closure.
