Since the early 2000s, the work of brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec has emerged as one of the most representative of the dynamism of French design. Working as a pair since 1998, the two brothers now design for many industrialists, while pursuing experimental research. Known for their formal research, particularly on vases, the brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec designed the Découpage collection: amazing vases, with strong plastic and sculptural qualities. The Découpage vases are composed of a cylindrical body in enamelled porcelain on which various decorative elements are grafted in clay in fluid and organic forms. These plastic assemblies form abstract compositions that play with various combinations of shapes and colours. The decorative clay elements (plates, bars, loops, etc.) can be removed: like a painter composing a painting, the user is invited to put together their vase. Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec: ''Each shape is cut out of a plate of clay. Some of them fit. Others stick together. Some of them stick out. Others join together. Each cylinder is cast. All of them are figures of a unique and capricious composition. All the elements are hand-dyed. With their irregular contours, they have a distinctly handcrafted appearance. Together they make up poetic compositions that look different from every angle. whimsical, ironic, unusual, lively. Ronan Bouroullec explains: ''The arrangements are in a delicate balance, as contrasting colours and layers converge to create a new harmony.
