The 2019 Cannondale CAAD Optimo Claris is Cannondale’s entry level road bike and one of the best looking budget road bikes on the market. When we first saw this bike in the flesh we assumed it was a £1000 bike. The frame, forks and paintjob are top quality and it has the look of a much more expensive bike. Cannondale pioneered the use of aluminium on road bikes and their CAAD12 aluminium bikes regularly beat carbon road bikes in tests. The CAAD Optimo brings all of Cannondale’s aluminium know how to a cheaper price point. Cannondale are calling the CAAD Optimo ‘gateway road bikes’. They are designed to get you hooked on proper road bikes with elite race geometry that gives you a flat back for flat out speed and nimble handling. All of the CAAD Optimo bikes come with a full carbon fibre fork and incorporate Cannondale’s SAVE technology which introduces small flex zones in the frame to absorb shocks. The CAAD Optimo fame weighs in at just 1400g with the fork adding another 420g so you get a full frameset well under 2kg. With the CAAD Optimo Claris you are getting a top quality frame and fork coupled with Shimano’s base level Claris running gear which is standard on most bikes at this price. It comes with 2 chainrings on the front and 8 at the back. This bike is perfect for Riders looking for a first road bike who want proper race geometry and handling.
