Description
ames Rug Black Cane & fibres. Dimensions: 160 x 224 cm. One carpet, three techniques ... Cabuya pays tribute to the craftsmanship and ancestral techniques of weaving and knitting. It consists of an assembly of three separate parts sewn together invisibly. Each part uses a particular manual manufacturing technique, giving rise to different weaves. This results in perspective effects and shadows that are created between different parts of the rug. Some parts almost seem to rise up above others, creating a three-dimensional impression. The "knit effect" large stitches give the rug a unique 3D look and exceptional comfort. The Cabuya rug is made of Fique: 100% natural, this vegetable fibre of Colombian origin comes from the tree of the same name. This sturdy fibre is used in the traditional manufacture of coffee sacks found throughout Colombia. Hand-made in Santander, in the Andean region of Colombia, the Cabuya rug is the result of complex, time-consuming craftsmanship. The extraction and spinning of the fibre is done by hand. Once the plant fibres have been released, they are washed, then soaked in water for fifteen hours. The dried fibres are then brushed by hand on wooden boards covered with nails, after which they can be processed. To make Cabuya, skilled craftsmen use three different manufacturing processes: double knotting, knitting on a vertical loom and knitting with large needles. The irregularity of this fibre, thanks to its craft production, produces a splendid pattern that’s rich in authenticity. The Cabuya rug is part of the Sala project, born out of a journey to Colombia taken by designer Sebastian Herkner. Concerned with bringing originality and authenticity to his creations, he met local craftspeople who have managed to preserve and pass on real expertise and traditional production methods over the centuries. For indoor use only - Hand-knitted in Colombia - 3 different manual manufacturing techniques - Colombian craftsmanship - 100% natural material - Thick knit-effect weave
