The plasma carburising process, first used by Rado, consists in loading finished white ceramic pieces into an oven, where the ceramic heats up to a temperature of 900 C and gasses activate at 20,000 C, changing the molecular structure of the pieces and producing a cool grey metallic colour. Remarkably, this colour is achieved without the use of any metal, and will not fade over time.
