This is a most attractive, golden foliage variant of Leyland cypress, which is more compact and slow-growing than the original green form.Growing DetailsCommon Name: Leyland cypressGenus: x CupressocyparisSpecies: leylandiiCultivar: 'Castlewellan Gold'Skill Level: BeginnerExposure: Full sun, Partial shadeHardiness: HardySoil type: Well-drained/lightHeight: 2500cmSpread: 500cmSpacing: 3 Plants Per MetreDescriptionThe colour is at its best in late spring when the new growth appears, but it keeps its gold hue well all year round. It makes a good plant for a hedge or screen, and can be clipped about three times per year to maintain the required size. If allowed to grow as a specimen plant it can eventually reach about 20m (65ft), which is around two-thirds the ultimate size of the green form. To propagate, take semi-ripe cuttings in late summer.
