The Britishled Arts and Crafts movement inspired many likeminds in Continental Europe. In Germany the emphasis upon the handmade was also linked with a revival in vernacular architecture and decorative styles; the establishment of the Bund für Heimatschutz in 1897 sought to preserve historic German buildings. Create 24 miniature houseshaped boxes and decorated with collages of Victorian scraps and reflecting the German vernacular building styles of medieval ‘Fachwerk’ (halftimbering) and the ornamented 19th century ‘Gründerzeit’ (‘New Era’) style.
