Museum Selection 20 Gould"s British Birds Cards
Description
Handsome reproductions, set within trompe l"oeileffect mounts, from "The Birds of Great Britain", 1873 by John Gould (1804 –81), a leading British ornithologist. The illustrations are based upon sketches and studies created by Gould from the life; they were then reworked by a wider team of artists, overseen by Gould, and made into coloured lithographs by the engraver William Hart. The lithographs would have been handcoloured originally. Images include a blackbird, fieldfares, and thrushes. 4 designs, 5" x 7", blank.
