The beguiling portrait 'Girl with a Pearl Earring' by Dutch artist Johannes Vermeer, painted around 1665.
Presented in a gold foil wood-effect frame, this picture has been reproduced using the oleograph technique of texturing a print to resemble an oil painting.
Born in Delft, Johannes Vermeer (1632 - 1675) was the son of a weaver and art dealer who inherited his father's art dealing business and large home around the age of twenty, by which time he had decided to become a painter.
His early works were large in scale and focussed on biblical and mythological scenes, although he is much more revered for his later works depicting everyday life indoors. Less than 40 of his paintings survive and his most loved works are known for their quality of light and often the quiet dignity of their subjects.
