Description

An original lithographic poster design for the exhibition of Maeght Editeur at Galerie Maeght in 1971, which features artwork by the celebrated American sculptor Alexander Calder. This reproduction print is presented in a contemporary black box frame, ready to wall hang.

A versatile artist and master of many mediums, Alexander Calder is best known for his innovative mobiles that embrace chance, surprise and space in their aesthetic, along with his monumental and often colourful public sculptures. Calder had the genius to turn sheet metal into a work of art and a canned food container into a bird. He created the link between surrealism, abstract art and a new kind of modernism, which he anticipated 30 years in advance.

Although today Alexander Calder remains famous for his sculptures, they do not eclipse his graphic work, notably, his gouaches on paper and his wonderful lithographs, edited and printed by Maeght.

Galerie Maeght is a gallery of modern art in Paris. The gallery was opened in 1946 by renowned art dealer and collector Aimé Maeght. Today, Galerie Maeght is considered as one of the cornerstones of twentieth-century modern art.
