Description
Reproducing details from two exquisite English School embroideries from the 16th and 17th centuries, a flourishing period for textiles and which developed a distinctive ‘English styleÂ’, particularly noted for rich colour and native wild flower motifs. The Tudor roses and harebells pattern originally decorated a c.17th century ladiesÂ’ jacket. The thistle motif, once part of a crimson skirt or petticoat, is said to have been embroidered by Mary, Queen of Scots for Elizabeth I while held under housearrest in England. Made exclusively for Museum Selection.
