Description
Background The reliability and precision of an ordinary mechanical watch can be affected by a magnetic field of 50 to 100 gauss, however, many scientists are exposed to much higher magnetic fields during the course of their work. The solution was the Rolex Milgauss, created in 1956, the first watch of its kind. Hence the name of the watch, mille being French for thousand. The new model operated perfectly up to 1000 gauss, empowering scientists to use their Milgauss timepieces without fear of damage. Several key components in the movement of the new-generation Milgauss are made of innovative paramagnetic materials, including the blue Parachrom hairspring. They were developed and are made in-house with advanced technology thanks to Rolex's unique command of the whole watch-making process.
