Description
Brilliantly cut, this decorative bowl from Stuart Crystal is part of the Shelton collection, a range that is designed to suit a lifestyle of casual but stylish entertaining. It was in 1827 that eleven year old Frederick Stuart was first sent to work at the Redhouse Glassworks and he remained in the crystal glass making industry until his retirement at the age of 82. Initially forming the firm Mills, Webb & Stuart with other glasswokers, the company was gradually overtaken by Stuart and his sons, and so it became the family business, Stuart Crystal. Whilst the technique of hand-gathered glassmaking remained near enough constant across the generations, each successive Stuart did bring their own ideas and creativity to the company. Numerous collections were produced, all featuring different cuts, and glass was even supplied for both the Titanic and Queen Mary ships.
