Museum Selection Luxury Loreto Christmas Cards
Description
Refined Christmas cards reproducing tender details of the Annunciation and Madonna and Child, each with intricate gold foiling which highlights details across the designs and frames to echo the original embroidery. Now in the collection of the Royal School of Needlework, the images reproduce two of a series of twelve embroidered panels. Unattributed, the satin and goldthread embroideries are known as the ‘Litany of Loreto’ series and reflect the influence of PreRaphaelite art; they are thought to date to the early 20th century. They once belonged to the Convent of the Holy Child in Maybury, East Sussex until they were bequeathed to the Royal School of Needlework.
