Description
Pleated Comet designer hanging light made of white plastic foil This hanging light is a beautiful design piece, which has been stylishly hand-pleated and provides atmospheric lighting and a distinctive style thanks to its unique appearance. Since they are made by hand, every product from the Danish lighting manufacturer Le Klint is unique, and must be handled carefully to ensure that the light can be enjoyed from a long time does not get damaged. Comet is a design by architect Poul Christiansen, who was responsible for further developing Le Klint’s famous pleating technique in the 1970s and 1980s. Until then only folds in straight lines had been used, but Christiansen discovered that folds in mathematical curves could give the lights beautiful round shapes. Le Klint’s designer lights have a long tradition. The first pleated lampshades, which seen as a trademark of the company to this day, were already being produced by the well-known family of architects at the beginning of the 20th century. The company was officially founded in 1943 aand the first shop was opened in Copenhagen, which still exists at the same address today. Over the course of the next few decades, a number of other models with character and recognition value were developed in cooperation with other architects and designers, but the classics from the 1940s are still among the lighting manufacturer’s best-selling models. The manufacturer sees itself as a modern manufacturing company with strong connections to traditional craftsmanship as the lampshades are still hand-pleated at the production plant in Denmark. This is because, in spite of a great deal of effort, it has not been possible to develop a machine that can meet the quality requirements of the characteristic cross-pleating technique.
