Description
This scenic landscape print by Jock McFayden shows the sheer horizontality of Dagenham and what's beyond the horizon. Showcasing a placid and still scenic picture but with tension and mystery too. Jock McFayden RA was born in 1950 in Paisley, Scotland. He attended Saturday morning classes at Glasgow School of Art and then, aged 15, moved to England. He went on to study at the Chelsea School of Art. In 1981 he was appointed Artist in Residence at the National Gallery in London. In 1991 he was commissioned by the Imperial War Museum to record events surrounding the dismantling of the Berlin Wall, and in 1992 he designed sets and costumes for The Judas Tree at Royal Opera House. It was at this point that landscape, often as a serious comment on life in the modern urban environment, began to preoccupy him. His art is raw and truthful, beautiful in its imperfections.
