Like his iconic Birds collection, Professor Oiva Toikka himself is synonymous with great Finnish design, even though his pieces often deviate bravely from Nordic archetypes.
He has enjoyed an enduring international career and received numerous awards, among them the Lunning Prize, Pro Finlandia Medal, World Glass Now 85 Award, Kaj Franck Design Prize and the Prince Eugen Medal.
