Museum Selection Gothic Christmas Greetings Cards
Description
Reproducing original illuminated Christmas card designs c.1890, reflecting the popularity of the High Victorian Gothic style, inspired by the writings of John Ruskin (1819–1900) and recalling the perceived honesty and natural quality of medieval art. Cards include original greetings to cardfronts: "Hark the glad sound! the Saviour comes, The Saviour promised long. Let every heart prepare a throne, And every voice a song!"; and, "Blest be thy happy morn, O day of truth and grace! The promised child is born, the Saviour of our race".
