Hamadan is a province in the west of Iran with a capital city of the same name. The rugs are handmade using home looms within local communities. You may find pieces that have similar intricate styling, but none will be identical. In the past only vegetable dyes were used, but now chemical dyes are also used for the wool. With 200000+ knots to the square metre, Hamadan rugs have a mid-density pile.
