Description

Inspired by the reception their tents and backpacks received from arctic explorers back in 1968, brand founder Ã…ke Nordin's drive for innovation brought him to create the Greenland jacket. Ever since its been intrinsic to their identity and a staple of their collection.

Some design features still remain from that very first jacket: Fjällräven continue to use the original G-1000 fabric Åke created. It's light, quick-drying, durable properties are everything you'd expect from an outerwear expert, with the shell only getting more comfortable over time.

Its adaptability has also been carried over from the previous iteration. An already hardwearing jacket, you're able to find a perfect balance of water repellency and breathability using their specialised Greenland Wax, coating the piece to increase resistance and removing to create an airer garment.

It's not only the fabric's heritage that continues to live on from its predecessors either. The two-way side pocket design continues to provide a convenient storage method for all your outerwear essentials.

Fjällräven wasn't just founded on the ethos of heritage designs however; that same lust for innovation Åke had continues to this day.

Improved with a few tweaks to stay relevant, the two-seam construction on the hood provides an overall comfier fit, with the overall shape now reflecting a more contemporary silhouette. Boxy and just big enough for a jumper underneath, it's now neater, designed to give you more freedom of movement than ever before.

Fjällräven has also developed the manufacturing process of the Greenland to align themselves more with their environmentally conscious ethos, converting the fibres of the G-1000 to use organic cotton and recycled polyester. By bringing you a jacket that hasn't begun life by damaging the planet, you and future generations are able to enjoy the very best of what rural exploration has to offer.

The best thing about the jacket, however, according to jacket designer Sara Isaksson, is something less tangible: it's the stories it carries. With age, the G-1000 fabric becomes more beautiful, more interesting and more personal with every journey. Imprinted with time, it carries the mark from every expedition undertaken. A history set in long tracks and steep mountains, the Greenland continues its heritage, worn as much in the city as it is outdoors, building bridges not only between people but between people and nature.
