Born in Dublin, Fintan Whelan studied at the Dun Laoghaire School of Art and the Dublin Institute of Technology. Fintan has spent his adult life in Spain and Germany, where he now lives. Expanding his style from oil painted abstracts on canvas, Fintan now uses a variety of experimental surfaces. His work of art is achieved by pouring, tilting and scraping materials, layer upon layer. What appears free-flowing and serendipitous is underpinned by strong direction and a creative interplay of colour and space. The abstracts resemble extraordinary landscapes and human forms. The result is something mesmerising.
