Description
The British Library Save when you buy the Christmas Manuscript Gift Wrap Set Wrapping paper blending exquisite details from the borders of early 15thcentury manuscripts, now in the superlative collection of the British Library. Reflecting the breadth of details – which often juxtaposed the sacred and profane – in the marginalia of medieval manuscripts, this festive wrapping paper reproduces intricate details of the Nativity and scenes from the Christmas story, taken from the borders of the Bedford Hours, c.1414–23, alongside a contrasting design of robins and wrens from the marginalia of the Sherborne Missal, created for the Benedictine abbey of St MaryÂ’s in Sherborne, Dorset, c.1399–1407. Created in France, the Bedford Hours was originally presented by Anne of Burgundy, wife of the Duke of Bedford, to her nephew as a gift on Christmas Eve 1430.
