The Calibre Gauntlet650B Hardtail Mountain Bike is built around 27.5" wheels for versatile trail performance, with a host of high quality components that include SRAM X5 shifting, Rockshox forks and Avid Elixir 1 hydraulic disc brakes. Designed from the ground up by Calibre's experts, the frame geometry ensures you get the very best out of the 27.5" wheels. Short chainstays reduce the wheel base for sharp, fast cornering while a slack head angle improves stability at high speed. Strong, lightweight alloy tubing is hand-welded throughout for powerful performance in tough terrain. The wheels themselves use specific trail rims laced to quality aluminium hubs. At 23mm wide, they follow the current trend of wider rim profiles to get the best grip and traction out of your tyres. The tyres come from WTB as well: the all-mountain 2.3" WTB Vigilante front and 2.2" Trail Boss rear tyres with a square-lugged, open-tread pattern for superb stability in loose and wet conditions. Up front, Rockshox XC30 Solo Air forks provide 120mm of plush air suspension with a lockout for when the suspension isn't needed. Air forks are lighter and more adjustable than spring forks and are generally better for xc, trail and all-mountain riding. Quality air forks from a respected brand like Rockshox on bike under £700 is fantastic value for money! Shifting comes courtesy of Rockshox's parent company SRAM, whose X5 shifters offer sharp, quiet performance over a wide range of 20 gears. Avid Elixir 1 hydraulic disc brakes mean consistent stopping power with superb modulation. The high level of componentry continues to the contact points, where a WTB saddle and Ritchey MTN trail handlebar ensures great comfort and control.
